Quartz and Glass Cuvette
A UV cuvette is a small, transparent container used in UV-Vis spectrophotometry. It is typically made of quartz or glass that is transparent to ultraviolet (UV) light. The cuvette is used to hold samples that are being analyzed with UV light, allowing the light to pass through the sample and measure its absorbance or transmittance.
UV cuvettes come in various shapes and sizes, but commonly have a rectangular or cylindrical shape with two clear sides for the UV light to pass through. The cuvette also has two caps or stoppers that can be removed to fill and empty the sample.
Quartz cuvettes are preferred for UV spectrophotometry due to their high transparency to UV light, minimal light scattering, and resistance to chemical corrosion. Glass cuvettes can also be used, but they may have limitations in terms of transparency to certain wavelengths of UV light.
UV cuvettes are widely used in chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, and other fields where UV-Vis spectrophotometry is used to measure the absorbance or transmittance of samples at specific wavelengths of UV light.
